(Bangkok Post file photo)The Highways Department plans to spend around 200 million baht repairing or replacing 6,000 roadside shelters outside Bangkok used by commuters in provinces across the country. Deputy director-general Sarawut Songwilai said the department had surveyed 22,239 roadside shelters nationwide, and 2,000 of them needed to be torn down and rebuilt and another 4,000 needed repairs. The budgeted cost was 200 million baht and the work would commence in December and be completed by the end of 2018. Mr Sarawut said the average cost of renovation was about 30,000 baht, and building new shelters would cost between 100,000 and 300,000 baht each.
